How to Organise a Conference
Thinking about organising a conference but not sure where to start? Done one already and want to swap tips with your peers to help your next one be even better?
This workshop will help you get familiar with the different aspects of conference logistics, including:
- starting with a purpose and mission for your event
- how to recruit and manage your conference team
- choosing a conference theme and writing a Call For Papers
- securing a venue
- applying for funding; selecting speakers and communicating with them
- publicisation, social media, and live-tweeting
- accommodating dietary, access, and technological requirements
- incorporating public engagement
- turning the conference proceedings into a published volume
About the trainer:
Dr Hanna Smyth has worked in public engagement at the University of Oxford since 2017, alongside and following her DPhil in History. After working for the Humanities Division and Research Services, she is now the Engagement Coordinator for the Oxford Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging in the Medical Sciences Division. She has organized more than 40 academic events, including the Oxford Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours conference in September 2024.
